Technolit-Polotsk makes monument to Heroes of 1812 for Russia's Maloyaroslavets

VITEBSK, 5 October (BelTA) – Technolit-Polotsk has manufactured a monument dedicated to the Heroes of the Patriotic War 1812 for Russia’s Maloyaroslvets, BelTA learnt from the company’s director Leonid Petrov. The contract was worth $1 million. The Polotsk enterprise has re-created the monument for the Russian city in the shortest possible time. Phased-in delivery of the monument will begin this week. The last flight is scheduled for 18 October. The monument actually looks like its Polotsk cousin, though it has minor differences. Thus, the dome of the Maloyaroslavets monument is more elongated and is shaped like a ball. Its lower tier is decorated with swords, wreaths and ribbons. According to Leonid Petrov, the company and the city of Krasnoye are now negotiating a similar project. In January-August the company produced Br10.9 billion worth of products, up almost 11% over the same period last year. The company exported $622,000 worth of products to Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Latvia and Lithuania, up 39.3% from January-August 2009. The export is expected to double by the end of 2010. The export accounts for 25% of the company’s total sales. Founded in 1927, the company manufactures metal products and goods of graphite iron. The company employs 360 professionals. The memorial chapel was opened in Polotsk in 1850. The memorial was shaped like a pyramid domed with a golden cross. It was surrounded by eight cast-iron columns with domes straddled by golden eagles. The composition was fixed on a cylindrical pedestal. The monument was 23.7 meters high and weighted 221 tonnes. Similar monuments were erected in seven towns, the 1812 War battles grounds, in the mid 19th century. The Union State budget allocated over RUB44 million for the restoration of the memorial. The new monument in Polorsk was inaugurated in May 2010.
