Vitebsk, Daugavpils to implement joint projects in construction, woodworking

DAUGAVPILS, April 24 (BelTA) – The Vitebsk oblast and Latgale have a great cooperation potential, Rita Strode, chairperson of the Daugavpils City Council, said at a ceremony to open the business-forum “The Days of the Vitebsk oblast in Latgale” on April 24. Latgale businessmen have shown interest in some of the projects offered by Vitebsk companies. Setting up joint woodworking companies and selling furniture in the European market are one of them, the Mayor of Daugavpils said. “We are ready to provide the brand of the European Union to Belarusian companies,” she added. According to Rita Strode, another promising area of cooperation can be the construction sector. Considering high volume of housing construction in Belarus and in the Vitebsk oblast in particular, the construction organisations of Daugavpils could provide their capacities for the implementation of the housing construction and social programmes. Viktor Nikolaikin, chairman of the Vitebsk City Council, invited Latvian businessmen to attend the investment forum which is due in Vitebsk during the Slavonic Bazaar in Vitebsk Festival. This is the first time the companies of the Vitebsk oblast are presenting their products in Daugavpils after Latvia joined the EU. The business-forum will run until April 25.
