Lukashenko arrives at Moscow Kremlin for Cosmonautics Day event

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has arrived at the Moscow Kremlin for a joint event with Russian President Vladimir Putin to mark Cosmonautics Day, BelTA has learned.

The heads of state are set to review the results of the mission to the ISS, where the crew of the Union State worked for the first time in history. The presidents will talk to the cosmonauts and discuss further prospects of cooperation in space industry.

As BelTA reported earlier, Belarus’ first cosmonaut, Hero of Belarus Marina Vasilevskaya arrived in Moscow the day before aboard the Belarusian president's aircraft. A solemn ceremony of honoring and awarding Belarusian cosmonauts and organizers of the expedition to the ISS took place in the Palace of Independence in Minsk on 11 April.

Another participant of the flight - Russian cosmonaut and native of Belarus Oleg Novitsky – is also set to attend the meeting in the Kremlin.

It has been reported earlier that Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded the Order of Gagarin to the first cosmonaut of sovereign Belarus Marina Vasilevskaya and Russian cosmonauts Oleg Novitsky and Sergei Prokopyev. The corresponding decrees were published on the Russian official portal of legal information.

In the evening on 11 April Aleksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin held talks in the Kremlin. The heads of state spent four hours discussing bilateral cooperation, response to emerging challenges and threats to security, the situation in the region and the international agenda.
