More than 20 government programs will be implemented in Belarus in the current five-year period, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said when speaking at the 5th Belarusian People's Congress, BelTA has learned.
"In 2016-2020 we are set to carry out more than 20 government programs. Roughly two-thirds of the budgetary funds allocated for these programs will be invested in the social sector: first of all, in medicine, education, culture, family support, and social protection," the Belarusian leader stressed.
He emphasized that the economic recovery is important for ensuring a higher level and quality of life of people. "This is a direct relationship: we need to work harder, if we want to live better," the President said. "The real economy sector generates the biggest part of the state budget and resources that are invested in the development of the social sector. We have chosen to be a socially-oriented state and we will continue this policy. This is evidenced by the national budget expenditures and the dominance of social articles in the state programs," Alexander Lukashenko noted.
No person who got in a difficult life situation should be left without state assistance, the President said. The matter is about the introduction of cashless housing subsidies with the aim of mitigating the impact of growing tariffs for housing and utility services. "We also need to work to reduce costs of these services, increase people's incomes and develop the system of targeted support for vulnerable categories of citizens," Alexander Lukashenko added.
